I am sure that the rock to which you are referring is mainly known as "Harlequin" because of its many colours and strange patterns. It comes from South Australia from an area I am told is Eyre Peninsula. I can find out if interested. Australasian granites quarry the stone which has many fractures and it is sold to Italy on an exclusivity arrangement. I have a coffee table made of it which has attracted a wide range of comments (all positive so far). It has been used for kitchen benches in exclusive residences as well as headstones.
